Adieus Mangesh Bab
Our classmate Mangesh Dalvi, our Patrao from Goa, passed away suddenly on February 23, 2025.
We were blessed with the opportunity to meet, hug and joke with Mangesh at our St. Xavier’s High School (batch of 1975) - Golden Reunion in Mumbai on Feb 8, 2025.
We are all shocked at his sad demise and share our deepest sympathies with his wife Neeta, son Pranav, daughter-in-law Ekta, grandchildren Niharika & Ananya and sisters Vinita & Priya.
“A special Thank You to Mangesh’s family for their cooperation and especially the beautiful photographs. You can leave comments, wishes and tributes at the end of this page and the same will be shared with the Dalvi family.”

FEBRUARY 2022: Sun, Shack & Sandals - Kaustubh Wagle, Nitin Adarkar and Mangesh Dalvi.
“Will miss you dear buddy, Goa will not be the same for us, pleasant memories! Nitin will agree!” ~ Kaustubh
Mangesh, a friend lost for ever!
I vividly remember Mangesh from the year 1966, firstly as a Xavierite, and secondly as a neighborhood buddy.
Those growing years, whether in the same class or not, playing cricket, marbles and games which our generation knew. The best part of Mangesh's skill was he was a very good hockey player, surprisingly, he did not represent the school.
We followed each other in Wilson College, unknowingly, he in the Science stream and me in Arts, though we met often with the usual highs and byes, he being studious and quiet, unlike me!
What baffled me one day was as a Sports Secretary of the college, I got the news that a slim lad, (Mangesh)who had enrolled as a boxer, had literally given a bloody nose to one of our best boxers, he was duly selected to represent our college for his proficiency.
He lost his father in college, with 2 married sisters and a homemaker mother (an excellent Home Chef).
Being a very determined guy since early years, he started a milk business, (mind you not easy) getting up at 2.30 am, when the van used to arrive and attend college later in the day. He did it successfully.
Graduation done, he opted for Sales and worked in the Pharmaceutical industry, a transferable job, where we lost touch ....as I shifted from SOBO to Andheri.
As life moves fast without us realizing it, our destiny is written, predetermined in all probability. Mangesh shifted to Goa with a job in a well-known family run business.
Me, having decided, Goa to be my retirement destination! “Bull's Eye” I bought a place in Mapusa very close to Mangesh's residence, we reconnected once again with him and Nitin Adarkar who too shifted to Goa.
The three of us used to meet as bachelors and with wives too.
We experienced on a few occasions his culinary expertise (his prawn curry taste still lingers in my mouth).
Often, I asked him , why does he not retire and relax, his reply would be the same “I enjoy my work”, which he was proficient with.
He was multi-talented, took up learning the guitar, which became his passion, as also being physically fit, swimming regularly, which he rightly did.
But, alas a call on Sunday shattered me, Pradeep, asked me to check if the news that jolted him was true? On confirming from a common acquaintance, I did not believe it, tried once again through other contacts, with the same mournful news, ... Suddenly, life has no meaning, my immediate thoughts turned to Neeta, his wife, in Australia, who was lovingly taking care of their newly born 2nd grandchild.
God, for me has been unkind to Mangesh, a noble soul. Gone too early my buddy, will surely miss you, particularly visits to our family deity Lord Mangesh.
Finally, I quote Irving Berlin “The song is ended, but the melody lingers on”.
Om Shanti. ~ Kaustubh Wagle (Mumbai)
Mangesh Dalvi ~ always in the front row! ~ in class photo with Miss Joan Soares and over 50 years later at the class reunion in Mumbai in 2025! He and his family will always be in the front of our thoughts and wishes. His memories will live on and his joyful nature will put a smile on our faces.
“Yes, I remember Mangesh. I feel sad that all younger than me are going so fast. I loved each one of my pupils. Very sad to have lost Mangesh, May his soul rest in peace. ~ Miss Joan Soares (Our class teacher seen in the black/white photo above)
We are blessed to have our classmate Alexander Furtado, represent us at our brother Mangesh’s funeral in Goa.
“Was more than happy to be the face of the 'class of '75' today, representing all of you to pay our last respects and say goodbye to a good mate and brother-in-arms... a Xavierite!” #classof75 ~ Alexander Furtado (Australian World Traveler)
The Aussies have always batted for Mangesh’s company in Australia or when they visited Goa. They were bowled over by his generosity, enthusiasm and brotherly love.
From Australia With Love & Gratitude:

“A little snippet about Mangesh. While he was in Melbourne as we were driving around we were discussing about food and he asked whether we could get everything from the Goan dishes. I mentioned that there were two things I missed. Bombil and the good Goan palm jaggery. Guess what. At the reunion, he hands me a packet to take back to Melbourne. Good Goan palm jaggery. That’s how big hearted he was” ~ Winston Vaz

Kya Hua Tera Vada? ….. you made an unwritten “vada” to belt out many more numbers from your newfound passion, your guitar… you stopped, too, soon, dear Mangesh …
Woh Kasam, Woh Iraada - The sweet memories of our childhood roll out like a movie in front of my eyes….. The Thursday afternoon cricket sessions in your wadi with yourself, Kaustubh and very often, joined by the late Kiron Wagle….. The SSC studies together with Snehal (Shah) and Kiron at Snehal’s Gamdevi home … The late evening walks to the Lassiwala opposite Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. We couldn’t even afford a full glass of lassi and the formula was 2 glasses by 4 ……
Cheers To Our Friendship!!
You were a kind soul, a cherished friend, a source of joy to all of us….. After you moved to Goa, besides the phone calls, we only met at our parties with the other batchmates in Mumbai… the salted cashew nuts you brought, so lovingly, from Goa on these occasions will always be remembered …. The pictures you sent on WhatsApp group were a testimony of how much you cared for our batchmates visiting Goa – the time spent and the effort made to give them a memorable time in Goa …Rest in peace, dear friend … you will always be remembered ~ Pradeep Phatak (Mumbai)

Mangesh - A Beacon Of Joy!!!
We lost Mangesh in a very sudden and tragic manner on the 23 rd of Feb 2025. Mangesh was not only my childhood friend as we came closer when my daughter shifted to Goa. Though he was busy working hard even in his twilight years, he made it a point to party whenever Kaustubh, Nikhil and me were together in Goa and once even Rajeev Karpe was present. He was extremely helpful and willing to go out to help all. He came with me regularly to Matrucchaya Orphanage and contributed regularly to this cause. He is one dear friend whom I shall miss forever. ~ Nitin Adarkar (Mumbai)
Mangesh was very close to me. I am extremely shocked and saddened, he was indeed a very honest loving simple soul always laughing and ready to help. May his soul get Sadgati. ~ Nikhil Baljekar (Mumbai)
Really stunned to hear this sad news about Mangesh! I first heard from my cousin in Mapusa who lives in the same building but did not know any more details. So fortunate to have met him at the Golden Reunion! Truly golden moments, to cherish forever We will miss his energy & zest for life!! ~ Rajeev Karpe (Singapore)
