Come, boys, let us…

….sing together Xavier’s glory.

As the 1975 (SSC) batch classmates, it is with pride and joy that even after so many decades away from school, we want to talk, text, zoom and meet each other. This website has our memories, our treasures, our pride & our stories.

We are so glad to launch this website on February 17, 2020, and hope that it gives you an insight to our bond and gratitude to the Jesuit education we received at St. Xavier’s High School, Fort, Mumbai. This site will always be a work in progress with various happenings around the globe. Take your time to enjoy it and preferably on a screen bigger than your phone. Cheers!

We have lost too many of our classmates, way too early. Let’s celebrate their lives and smile as we remember them.

Editor’s Blah Blah Blah:

Yeh dosti hum nahin todhenge

Which literally means ‘this friendship, we will not break’, is a song from the Hindi movie Sholay, released in 1975, the year we were released to the real world. Off to different colleges, trade schools and careers, we said our goodbyes to our classmates. Since 1975, we have not met or even spoken to some of them. But after over 45 years, the shift from those black sturdy rotary phones to our ever-changing smart phones has made reaching out to each other, a matter of touch and choice.

Progress and development has its consequences and social media and group chats, though a necessity, have their demons too. So, when I suggested a website dedicated to our batch to control what we share and yet welcome all those weary of closed groups and the daily dose of unnecessary and sometimes repeated posts, the support for the idea was encouraging.

It was just an idea in the first two weeks of this 2020 decade. I had not even started to procrastinate when on January 15th, Percy gave us a kick start by announcing, “I just purchased the Xaviers75.com domain for 5 years.” The ball was now in my court and I had to set it rolling. After purchasing an annual hosting plan, I decided to take my talents to the web. There were distractions galore, Grammys, Oscars, Super Bowl, Kobe’s sudden death & the NBA All-Star game, but as my classmates know, my boys Johnny, Jim, Jack, Jose & Basil Hayden helped me focus. From Melbourne to Singapore to Mumbai to Dubai to London to Boston to Dallas to Los Angeles, the footprints of our classmates have helped us maximize the different time zones, to work efficiently as a group and of course to remember it is 5 o’clock somewhere.

The vision for this site is to give us a repository of our memories, a digital yearbook and a place to update ourselves on the happenings of this group. To reach out to one another and help each other and the world around us with our time, talents and gifts. To act as a window for the next generation to view our accomplishments, experience the camaraderie that we share and smile at how we looked before they were born.

“Sholay – The Greatest Story Ever Told” – Let’s keep our sholay burning and continue to write our stories. Cheers!
